Sea of Remnants NPC System

NPCs are expected to play a major role in Sea of Remnants.

Rather than acting only as shopkeepers or quest markers, many residents of Orbtopia may have their own stories, relationships, routines, faction connections, and reactions to player decisions.

The official Steam description confirms more than 300 companions and rival factions that respond to the player's choices.

What Can NPCs Do?

Depending on the character, an NPC may:

Offer a quest
Join the crew
Sell or craft items
Provide information
Develop a relationship with the player
React to previous choices
Open new story branches
Change location or behavior
Become an ally or rival

Crewmates vs. NPCs

Not every NPC is necessarily a recruitable crewmate.

A useful distinction for the Wiki is:

Crewmates: characters who can join the player
NPCs: residents, traders, quest characters, enemies, and other non-playable figures
Factions: groups that connect multiple characters and storylines
